I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. Mainly about the newcomers arriving in New Bark Town.
After the massive snowstorm that came in before the holidays, I think we can all agree there has to be a better contingency plan to get new arrivals the proper help they need to get by. Maybe there is a way we can get information out to them better. I'm open to suggestion but here is what I'm proposing:
A basic survival guide. We already have a guide outlining the wildlife here but nothing about basic wilderness survival. Under these conditions, having a sleeping bag is not enough to get by through the night.
To be honest, besides learning it from others, I do not know the first thing about surviving the outdoors. But I know there are others out there who do. If we all pool our resources together we can make something that will save any newcomer a whole lot of grief.
Now I'm willing to compile the information together. All I need is a little help with the legwork here so to speak. Here are a few items to give everyone an idea:
1.) Weathering your campsite
2.) Building a fire from scratch
3.) Geo-navigation
4.) Notable Wild Pokémon Dangers
5.) Storm/Severe Weather Preparation
Now I may have unintentionally left some subjects out. But if this is something you're interested in then send me a message.
[For those of you who are messaging Jayden via video be prepared to see a man all scratched up in the face from his new baby shiny Torchic he got for Christmas. Who knew baby fire chickens like to play peck the shit out of Jayden's face as soon as it hatches? So far the winning nickname for this little guy is SHOO!

[Sure, it's not a catch all, answer all your questions, but it's still a useful read. If only for the berry list in the back.]

[ She briefly flashes the outlining of an artistic beauty. It's a Sunkern in midair, overlooking the city, being held by a zubat. Isn't it darling? And totally weird?
ooc: Canon states she's a talented artist, so she definitely should be able to help in that regard. ]

That's really good. I had diagrams in mind but I'm not very artistically inclined. We could use a few illustrations showing how to set up shelter and food gathering.
[ooc: aww yes! pictures! we can totally use an artist for this one. c: ]

perhaps a list of pokemon who may be useful to catch types or otherwise
how to find water
and the breeding center egg deal for newcomers might be useful as a note in the guide?

I read your other message. Send me the files when you get a chance.

The video comes on to show a 13-year-old boy bundled up in several layers of warm clothes with what looks like a cave in the background. Light is obviously being provided by an off-screen fire.]
I thought everyone knew how to do things like that. I guess if you only live in towns you think that you don't need to learn these things.
I can tell you how to do most of those things if you want me to. Finding edible and medicinal plants is something else that it doesn't seem like everyone knows, but that's harder when there's snow on the ground. It's harder to show people what to look for too.

Some might not need the reminder but we can't risk assuming everyone does.
Seasonal food gathering and first aid will be an important matter to bring up. I haven't spoken to anyone who knows much about doing it in the winter though. Perhaps that's a good place to work with first.

What I will say is that I've got a Pokémon rental service up and running, which might help out any newbies who need to get somewhere fast. It operates from Celadon, but it's not like I can't transfer Pokémon to one of the centers.

Never knew we had a Pokémon rental service. Good to know. It doesn't help much with the three-day travel to Cherrygrove City but at least there is something to fall on once they get there.

You should also work out how you're going to get all this information to them. People arrive in groups, so there's a good chance that even if you notice all the new posts on the network you can miss getting to all the arrivals. I'd encourage people to work together during their first few days, too, since that's the case.

you know i am STILL pissed that none of the professors thought to do anything like this for new guys
but yeah hi it's a good idea
maybe a visual guide on what plants are okay and NOT okay to eat because holy shit those crazy native berries will WRECK you if you even think about eating 'em
[Text]
What I'm doing is simply logistics. Not a lot of people would be willing to sit down to write an instruction manual on basic survival skills.
[Norman is giving them the benefit of the doubt. You know your society has gone tits up when you have a house spawning dozens of strangers FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE UNIVERSES. At some point they all probably said "Fuck it" and just slapped together a half-assed supply set.
Shit he doesn't want to do it but this is all being done so others don't go through the same thing he has been through. Did you see how bad that shitsnowstorm was? HOLY. SHIT.]
But having a few visuals on plants is not a bad idea. I assumed the Berry Guide covered that base already.
